🥩 Product & Quality

What Comes in a Beef Box

Each box includes a curated selection of premium beef cuts, such as steaks, roasts, ground beef, and specialty items. Box contents may vary slightly by season or availability.

Where is your beef sourced from

All of our beef is locally raised on Canadian prairies. Our cattle are 100% grass-fed and grass-based forage finished, raised with care for superior nutrition and flavour.

Is your beef hormone or antibiotic free

Yes-our beef is raised without added hormones or antibiotics. We're committed to responsible ranching and high-quality, clean meat.

How long is your meat aged?

Our beef is aged for 21 days to get the richest, juiciest flavour and most tender quality.

What grade is your meat?

Our beef is graded AA and higher for intermuscular fat.

What is "marbling"?

Marbling is added fat between the muscle fibres in meat. We recognize it as the white sections in a cut of meat that add moisture and flavour.

What does grass-fed and grass-finished beef mean?

Grass-fed and grass-finished means that the animal has been fed grass or grass-based forage its whole life and has never consumed any grain.

📦 Packaging, Storage & Handling

How is the beef packaged and delivered

Each cut of meat is portioned, vacuum-sealed in barrier material packaging, and frozen. This method prevents any type of freezer damage to the meat. Orders are packed in a recyclable box and may contain dry ice and delivered using refrigerated trucks to maintain cold chain integrity during transit.

What's the shelf life of your beef

Frozen and vacuum-sealed beef can last up to 12 months in your freezer without compromising taste or quality.

How much freezer space do I need for my order?

The amount of freezer space you need will vary based on your order size. Here's a visual guide to help you prepare the right amount of space for your order.

Is your packaging recyclable

Our boxes are eco-friendly and curbside recyclable in most areas.

How do I handle dry ice?

If your cooler still contains dry ice on arrival, wear gloves to remove the bag from the cooler and place the bag outdoors. Once completely evaporated dispose of the plastic bag. Dry ice is solidified carbon dioxide. As the -109°F substance absorbs heat, it turns directly into a gas, releasing carbon dioxide into the air.
What not to do:
• Do not place dry ice in water or other liquids.
• Do not attempt to dump dry ice in a sink or toilet. The extreme cold will harm sink and toilet parts and pipes.
• Do not dispose of dry ice in garbage receptacles or garbage chutes.
• Do not leave dry ice in an unventilated room to evaporate. It will release a build-up of carbon dioxide into the air that can cause rapid suffocation.
• Do not place dry ice on a tile or laminate countertop. Instead, use a solid surface - a wood cutting board or piece of plywood is best. Dry ice is sometimes used in tile removal and may destroy the bonding agent holding the tile or laminated material in place.
• Do not store dry ice in a glass or air-tight container. Pressure will build up inside and could cause the container to explode.

🚚 Shipping & Delivery

Do you ship outside Alberta

At this time, we only ship within Alberta. We're focused on serving our local communities with the highest quality beef and dependable delivery. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know when we expand our delivery locations.

Do I need to be home to receive my delivery?

We recommend being home at the time of delivery so the driver can hand deliver the order directly. However, if you're not available, your order can still be delivered if you've provided clear delivery instructions (e.g., porch box, back door) when placing your order or when called by our delivery truck operator.  A reminder that if you are not available to receive the hand delivery and have instructed us to leave the order, Prairie Farm Foods and its delivery partners are not liable for damage, spoilage, or loss after delivery has been completed.  Please see our Delivery Policy for more details.

What happens if I'm not home and haven't left instructions?

If no one is available to receive your order and no delivery instructions were provided, our delivery partner will attempt to reach you by phone or text. If contact cannot be made, the driver will return the package to cold storage to maintain product integrity.

What is the rescheduled delivery policy?

If the driver is unable to leave the order and cannot complete the delivery due to lack of access or instructions, the package will be returned to cold storage and delivery will be attempted on the next day that products are delivered to your route. After two days of attempted delivery, the order will be cancelled, and a refund issued minus a "Restocking and Handling" Fee of $30.

What happens if I live in an apartment, condo building, gated community or location with restricted access?

When delivering to secured building, gated communities or location with restricted access, drivers will contact you upon arrival. To avoid missed deliveries, we ask that you meet the driver at the front entrance. Please provide any required buzzer codes, gate access, or concierge details when placing your order. If the driver cannot gain access and is unable to reach you, the order will be returned to cold storage and subject to redelivery.
