Prairie Ranchers Beef began with a simple but powerful vision: to produce the most nutritious and delicious beef possible while regenerating the land for future generations. Our story is rooted in the rich agricultural traditions of the Western Canadian Prairies, where ranching communities have been stewards of these wide open spaces for over a century.

A Regenerative Approach to Raising Beef

We've chosen to focus on regenerative ranching practices because we believe that the most exceptional beef comes from cattle raised the way nature intended — on diverse grasses and grass-based forages, following the rhythms of the seasons, and thriving on the nutrient-rich pastures and forages.

Our cattle are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished — a choice that reflects our commitment to responsible ranching practices. During the grazing season, they enjoy fresh pasture. During the months when pasture grazing isn't possible, they eat grass-based forages of silage and hay. In the finishing stages cattle are also fed high quality grass-based forages.  This approach produces exceptionally marbled beef while staying true to the regenerative philosophy that we strive to follow.

Ranching in Harmony with Nature

For our ranching families, regenerative ranching isn't a trend — it's a comprehensive system of land management based on five core principles of soil health that we strive to follow:

  1. Minimizing soil disturbance
  2. Keeping soil covered with plant matter
  3. Maintaining plants and living roots in the soil
  4. Growing diverse plant species
  5. Integrating livestock into the land management system

By following these principles, our ranches have the potential to become carbon sinks rather than carbon sources. Our grazing patterns mimic the way bison once moved across the Western Canadian Prairies, stimulating plant growth, increasing soil organic matter, and improving water retention. The result is healthier land that produces more nutritious forage and, consequently, more nutritious beef.

The People Behind the Brand

Prairie Ranchers Beef represents a community of dedicated ranching families, each bringing their own expertise and passion to our shared mission. Here are a few of those dedicated ranching families.

At Pine Haven Farms near Wetaskiwin, Will Hofer leads our beef operation with a philosophy rooted in working within nature's system. "The simple elements [within nature’s system] provide all we need to raise abundant, high-quality, nutritious beef,” says Will. Their approach combines the simplicity of traditional ranching with fresh knowledge about regenerative practices, always seeking connections between people, animals, land, and environment.

Near Hardisty, the team at Prairie Land & Cattle brings over 60 years of family farming experience to the partnership. "We are proud to help lead a new approach to ranching beef — economically and environmentally sustainable to benefit everyone from our ranchers to consumers for many generations," explains Cliff Drever. Their focus on improving soils through carefully managed grazing reflects our commitment to enhancing the land for future generations.

At Walter Farms - W over Diamond Ranch near Armena, Ed Lange and his cooperative partners represent the collaborative spirit that drives our work. "We want to be more than just another producer. We want to be connected to the people who buy our food," says Ed. Their five-member cooperative has been working together for over 20 years, each partner bringing different strengths while maintaining their tradition of working cattle with horses.

Together, these ranching families share a vision of producing delicious, nutrient-dense beef while caring for the animals and the land.

From Prairie to Plate

What truly sets Prairie Ranchers Beef apart is our complete control of the entire process, we oversee every step from breeding to processing:

  • Our breeding program selects cattle that thrive on diverse forage diets and produce well-marbled beef without grain.
  • Our grazing program rotates cattle across our pastures in patterns that regenerate the soil.
  • Our federally inspected processing facility allows us to maintain the highest standards of quality and food safety.
  • Our direct-to-consumer model ensures freshness and traceability.

This vertical integration gives us unparalleled ability to guarantee the quality, ethics, and sustainability of every cut of beef that bears our name.

 A Taste Worth Savouring

The result of all this care and attention is beef with exceptional flavour, tenderness, and nutritional profile. Our grass-fed and finished beef is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A and E, and contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) — essential nutrients our bodies need.

Many customers tell us they rediscover what beef is supposed to taste like when they try ours for the first time. The deep, complex flavours reflect the rich array of prairie grasses our cattle graze on, as well as their low-stress lives on our ranches.
